Allow Me Introduce Myself
By Erin Stroud

Well we are officially launching and this being the first blog ever of mine; I thought it appropriate to introduce myself as your Pondering Processor. A bit about myself, who I am, where I came from and how I got here on this webpage ?

My first job in this industry was with a small realty company (an office in the basement actually) as a receptionist in 1987 barely 17 years old. I eventually moved on to a national realty company as an administrative assistant. Of course the natural step from there was to obtain a realtors license and start listing and selling homes and bring in the big bucks $$……….my first lead was a listing for a very rundown mobile home priced at $15,000.00! Needless to say my candle was quickly extinguished! Since it was painfully obvious that I wasn't cut out for sales and still being at the tender age of 20 I thought I would head into the area of law, specifically real estate law. I took an administrative position with a law firm and thus began my career as a very green settlement processor. Ahh….. the good ole days, typing my schedules A, B and C with carbon copy paper on an IBM Seletric typewriter! Short form policies and a word processor? Ha! I would have given up an index finger for that. So, time goes by and over the years I worked with a couple of title companies, each time learning something new, expanding my knowledge, making great friends and enjoying the job.

At the time of the refinance boom I never for a second thought that there would come a time that we would be sitting around twiddling our fingers wondering what to do for 8 hours a day. And yet there we sat. Nearly two decades later I found myself wondering what in the world I would do for a living at this age?? It certainly felt a little late in life to change career paths. All real estate related jobs seemed uncertain at best. I actually applied for a part time processing job to pick up a little extra work and found myself competing with approximately 165 other applicants. Then an entrepreneur friend and fellow title veteran concluded that the best way to use our newfound time was to create a website and offer all the helpful information we could provide to other title agencies and their staff. A nationwide "one stop shop" if you will. And thus here we are.

My job is now to blog. I'll take it! I have to laugh, if you had told me back in the "Selectric" days that I would be blogging about my title adventures I would have never believed it. Heck, even though there was such a thing as the internet, I sure didn't have one in my home or office at the time. I look forward to this new adventure, the opportunity to network with others in our industry, share stories, opinions, views and new and exciting ways to continue to do our jobs. Keep current and hopefully assist in helping our industry thrive and move onward and upward.

So that's me, welcome and thank you. Please leave your comments, thoughts, laughs, or criticisms. I covet your responses and look forward to the camaraderie.
